Sports sports sports.

A short lived schedule change gave me Friday night lights practice, on top of other high school sports...

Lobos Tab 1

I was assigned to photograph Louie Lobo and Lucy Lobo for various sports tabs throughout the season. I had about one hour to get as many different cover shots as I could that could be saved and used for different games. It was high pressure but very fun. I'm going to publish them on here as they are published. So here's the first and probably my favorite from the night. The poor girl dressed as Lucy Lobo had to keep jumping on my command and I know she could barely hear me yelling "1, 2, 3..." through the costume.

Frog Jump

This is actually from a tryouts session for a new football team in town. Each one of the guys trying out for a team position had to complete the broad jump. I sat on the ground and keep thinking of big frogs with long lean jumping legs.

UNM v NMSU 2007

I have figured out how to post Soundslides into Blogger! (Actually with some help from SS's own Joe Weiss. THANKS!!) So here is my first multimedia piece for the Journal. I suggested it after realizing it's most likely the biggest game of the season and the first home game. I was responsible for some of the feature photos, sound and final production. The photos included were taken by staff photographer Jim Thompson, fellow intern Shaminder Dulai and myself. I upgraded to Soundslides Pro and enjoyed using it without any problems!

Chorus Line football

This week I had some issues with the Nikon bodies the paper kept giving me to use with the 300mm. Let's just say I'm now on body #3 and so far so good. So I had to shoot Lobos practice and one of the cameras failed on me and left me with my 70-200 and 16-35. In my despair I kept thinking the guys lined up on the sideline reminded me of the cast of A Chorus Line. It made me smile.

Photo Essay - HS Sports Practice

Monday was the first day of high school sports practices and I was lucky enough to be assigned a photo essay on it for one high school. I LOVE doing this type of thing. Who doesn't right? I was challenged to cover 5 practices: football, cross-country, girls soccer, volleyball and boys soccer. It was a mad rush as most of the teams held practice at the same time, but somehow it got done. I'm pretty happy with the results of a 3 hour job for one essay. Below are the photos in color and some outtakes.

They only wanted one photo per sport so these were cut.

Settling in ABQ

Well it has been a week in Albuquerque.
The town is quite large, at least for me.
Waking up to see the mountains every morning is spectacular.
And the sunsets aren't bad either.

High school football practice... focusing on the coaches with some nice morning light.
