I have come to realize I am too glued to my 10D. It's great and all for the photojournalism side of me, but for some reason whenever I use it to take "creative" or "just for fun" shots I am never pleased with my results. It's probably just some road block in my mind, but I have a solution! For a week or so I will dust off and carry around my old SX-70 polaroid camera. I love that camera! This means to post any pics I'll have to scan them at a friend's house (hint, hint, here I come Lynn).
Hopefully I'll also be getting some more daily assignments from the Florida Independent Alligator, those of course will be digital though.

Ashley 1 & 2
Latest prints of mine.
Working digital I've noticed I don't print out pics any more.
Is that bad?
So maybe I should go back to film? I admit, I do enjoy it more.

Visitor
Yesterday's visitor.
He seemed to be a rather large hermit crab.
I forgot to ask his name, as I was running late to class.

"French Fries"
John Henry's "Alachua" on the UF campus. Cost to University: $75,000.
Many have mocked it, including past UF Vice President Robert Bryan who nick named it "French Fries from Hell" and threaten to have himself chained to the piece until it was removed.
It's still there.

UF landmark
OK so what is this thing? Does anyone know? It's certainly not a sculpture, it's just a rock. A rock that many people say either resembles a potato or even a gator. (I still don't see the gator.)
In my art history class, our first assignment is to define art in our own terms and also bring in an example of something we consider to be art and something that we don't consider to be art.
So is this rock thing art?
My opinion?
Nope.

After the storm...
Daily afternoon rainfall in the Gainesville is not the most up lifting, but the sky this afternoon made up for the depressing weather.
Took this picture while in bumper to bumper traffic on Archer.

Wall Art
Four foot by five foot art piece by Morgane, which now graces the wall of our apartment.
Pretty cool.

Drive-by Cows
Fun photo with cows mixed in the back field.
Taken a few days ago, back home in Daytona.
On another note, it's good to have internet connection again, and high speed at that!

Hurricane
So no power for almost an entire week...
In Daytona, Charley left downed trees, electrical wires, screened pool enclosures and various signs.
Pictured here is the huge tree that almost took out our family cars. It landed less than a foot behind them.
P.S.
If you click on this picture it will take you to another site where I have downloaded more pictures of hurricane damage and surroundings, all in "Hurricane Charley" set.

Party Animal
One of my Canadian relative's pets.
Even the Canadian pets drink beer.
Gotta love it.

Bentley
Here's my partner in crime.
Bentley is a 10-month-old yorkshire terrier.
He's full of energy and loves to race around the house.
I was fiddling with my new flash and Bentley was the perfect subject, although he likes to run right up to the camera lens when it's at his eye level.
So far I'm very happy with the quality of my new flash, a Canon 550ex, and it cooperates perfectly with my Canon 10D. :)

The Wet Dream
Visual Buffet's summer show, The Wet Dream, attracted many people Saturday afternoon, and was declared a huge success by those who attended.
With threatening rainclouds overhead, the guests arrived via boat to a secluded island setting which offered a stunning backdrop to the creative talent of Visual Buffet.
The timely arrival of a German art buyer finalized his purchase of the entire show. Unfortunately, his acquisition went up in smoke to the disbelief of the assembled guests.

Another Day
Rain, rain, rain at home, didn't dare take out the camera today. So here's another from Nicaragua.
This was shot at a school on the outskirts of Puerto Cabezas. The poorest school I have seen so far, children from 5 to 14 years old were being taught under one roof. The roof wasn't even solid. The school "shelter" is not in this picture, it was behind me at the time. Behind the children in the photo is the community church.
Hope for good weather tomorrow! :) No more rain in FL please! And hopefully some interesting pic will be posted.

Nicaragua
Here goes my very first post!
I am currently a photojournalism student at UF.
I'll try to post a pic for each day but my commitment to online journals isn't very strong. I'm trying to change that.
And here's my first pic.
Taken in Karata, Nicaragua at a local school, May 2004.
