Jump

Another sportrait flew my way this week. This photo was to accompany a story on the lack of high school senior basketball stars this year but a promising junior class which will lead to an even better season next year. Luckily my chosen subjects were a bit of hams and up for jumping and dunking for me as much as possible before we got tossed out of the gym for a game to begin.

Black and White Basketball

St. Pius High School gym is the brightest I've seen so far. A bit of a yellow cast from the yellow walls but not bad in black and white. With total ambient light... ISO 3200, F2.8, 1/800 sec.

More high school basketball

Snow and basketball season

These are all from last week... we had some snow up in the mountains and I had fun falling on the slippery ice at Sandia Crest. High school basketball is in high swing and so is wrestling apparently. And finally the last photo is my ode to not having a Christmas tree this year. It was funny though that the lot selling the trees had a fake one all decorated and lit up.

Anderson Funeral

This was a hard one to shoot since I had gotten to know Dante last month when I shot him as one of the Gainesville Sun's players of the year. And the accident in which he died was right in front of the Gainesville Sun office and my apartment.
He was a good sport for the portrait I did of him. I just wish it wasn't the last photo taken of him. I do remember telling him to imagine he was posing for something big like Sports Illustrated and that made him smile. I'm sure in a few years he would have been.

Basketball POY

POY "sportraits"
It's that time of year again... play of the year.
And sick of the typical waist high portrait I ventured into a different direction with the boy players of the year. Since I had two out of three on the first day I decided on the "look" of the photos and just went with it.
(With the aid of some of the guy photographers in the office and cheering on the basketball players. I guess if one guy thinks it's cool the rest will too.) Either way it worked.
The basketball players loved it and were pumped to keep jumping for me until I got the shot.

Basketball and returning Champions

After only about 3.5 hours of sleep on Tuesday, I played hostess to friends that made the trek to Gainesville for the game night excitement. Then later I got to shoot the Gator Men's Basketball game where the returning football team made a special appearance during half-time.
